Eastern European Catholics Under Heavy Attack
In the last few days there have been 2 large attacks on the faith of Polish and Baltic State Catholics:
According to cwnews.com: “In a 6-1 decision this week, the European Court of Human Rights ordered the government of Poland to award 25,000 euros to a woman who claims her human rights were violated when she was denied an abortion”
Many think the court order is an attempt to coerce Poland into legalizing abortion under all circumstances. The court order stated “no procedural and regulatory framework had been put in place to enable a pregnant woman to assert her right to a therapeutic abortion, thus rendering that right ineffective.”
This is what a Catholic nation gets when it tries to protect the rights of its citizens-in-the-womb. If only these people in the EU would wake up and realize that human life begins at conception and that killing a person in the womb is not any more acceptable than killing any person outside the womb.
Also in the news, according to catholicnewsagency.com: “Lithuania’s Radio and Television Commission voted unanimously to fine the director of MTV Networks Baltic for airing Popetown, an anti-Catholic cartoon whose humor is based on irreverence toward the Roman Catholic Church.”
The cartoon has been aired in Germany, New Zealand, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. The most appalling part of this story is that the man responsible for this programming called Lithuania “a sort of half-medieval, half-communist, sick culture." This comment was made because the people of Lithuania, being 80% Catholic, were offended by this cartoon.
This is a wake-up call to all Catholics of good will. We need to pray for our brethren in Eastern Europe. They need our help. We must not sit idly watching these abuses being carried out. We need to stand up for our faith. We need to do this in our prayers, in our words, in our votes, and in our active participation in our communities. The truth needs to be spread. We are the only ones who will stand up for our faith. The need is urgent. We must act immediately.
