Pope: Truth Necessary in Dialogue with Other Religions

In his weekly audience today, Pope Benedict XVI spoke about St. Justin Martyr and emphasized the need for recognition of the truth in our dialogue with philosophy and other religions.

The Pope reminds us that our Catholic Faith is rooted in truth, and that is what will ultimately draw others into it. Once a person knows the truth, they cannot reject the Catholic faith. We must continue to fight against moral relativism, which is the rejection of objective truth. It is our duty to evangelize, to spread the truth and open others’ eyes to God, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

In his audience, the Pope stated, “The full truth, however, has been given to Christians with the Incarnation of the Word of God. Our dialogue with philosophy and other religions, inspired by Saint Justin, must remain firmly rooted in Truth, while always avoiding that which is merely fashionable.”

Let us contemplate these words and apply them when we can to our discussions with those of other faiths. The full text of the Pope's audience is found here.
